New Internal Medicine Practice Opens in Brevard
BREVARD, N.C., March 15, 2010 – Residents of Transylvania County will have more access to primary healthcare thanks to the formation of a new internal medicine practice in Brevard.
Transylvania Regional Hospital is pleased to announce the formation of Brevard Internal Medicine and Pulmonology at Transylvania Regional Hospital on the hospital’s campus. The multi-specialty practice combines the existing successful pulmonology and sleep medicine practice of Dr. James Kelling with the new internal medicine practice of Dr. Carmen Kelling.
The husband-and-wife team will provide a wide range of medical services in the new practice from basic primary care to disease prevention and chronic disease management for conditions including diabetes, hypertension, emphysema, asthma and pneumonia. Both physicians are board certified in internal medicine. Dr. James Kelling is additionally board certified in pulmonology and sleep medicine and will continue to treat patients with breathing and sleep disorders including emphysema, asthma, sleep apnea, restless legs, narcolepsy and insomnia.
The new practice will also continue to house the hospital’s state-of-the-art outpatient sleep center. The outpatient center features two modern sleep rooms—complete with all the amenities of a home or hotel—to provide a quiet, safe, relaxing environment to conduct sleep studies.
Dr. Carmen Kelling is an experienced internist. Prior to joining the new practice, she served for three years as a hospitalist physician at Transylvania Regional Hospital, treating many of the county’s most-ill patients who were admitted to the hospital. Prior to moving to Brevard with her husband, she maintained both an outpatient internal medicine practice and served as an inpatient hospitalist physician in Canton, Ohio.
Dr. Carmen Kelling has a special interest in women’s health, preventative medicine, nutrition and helping patients manage chronic conditions including diabetes. She earned her medical degree at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Carol Davila in Romania and completed her residency at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio.
“After treating some of the most acutely ill patients in the hospital in Brevard for the past three years, I look forward to seeing patients in the office and helping them to manage their conditions to keep them well and hopefully out of the hospital,” Dr. Carmen Kelling said. “My philosophy is to treat my patients with the same care and respect that I would like to receive as a patient.”
Dr. Kelling is looking forward to working with her husband in medical practice. “It has always been our goal to work together as a medical team,” she said. “We both have similar approaches to how we practice medicine and we get along very well. This can only benefit all of our patients.”
Dr. Carmen Kelling is currently accepting new patients ages 18 and up at the new practice and began seeing patients on March 15. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 885-5709.
