How to Use This Site
We have chosen to report quality outcomes in several key areas: pneumonia care, hospital-acquired infection rates, acute myocardial infarction, surgical care and patient satisfaction. Each of these areas has a comparison group available within North Carolina and nationally, which allows us to compare our results with other hospitals.
To view quality data for any of these areas, simply click on that measure and you’ll reach a chart that compares Transylvania Regional Hospital’s performance data with state and national averages. We have also provided meaningful explanations and background information (when needed) to help you understand the full context of the data you are viewing.
The charts are color-coded, and simple to read at-a-glance. Green indicates that our outcomes in that area are "above average." Yellow indicates a score that is "at or near average." Red indicates a "below average" score.

No Average Comparison or Too Few Cases | Leader in the Industry/Scores in Top 10% |
There are some instances in which our outcomes are within the top 10 percent in a comparison group. These instances will be marked with a gold star—an easy way to see areas in which we lead the industry in positive outcomes for our patients.
Rarely, we may have an outcome measure "in the red," and we will explain the specific actions we are taking to address our opportunities for improvement. For us, any score that falls below our expectations is nothing to hide—it is something to focus on. Through quality improvement initiatives, we aim to bring all lower scores up to the highest standards.
