To improve access to healthcare, TCH oversees a variety of programs and assists patients in tapping into those and other resources, including:
- Community Alternatives Program for Disabled Adults (Cap/DA) helps Medicaid patients find home-care services in order to delay or prevent the need for nursing home care. Call 828-883-5254.
- Medical and Special Needs Transportation (MedDrive) provides transportation for medical and special needs. Call 828-884-3203.
- Rx Assistance assists those who cannot afford their medication apply to pharmaceutical companies for free medications. Grants for emergency situations are available. Call 828-883-5002.
Diagnostic Services—828-883-5272
Operated by a team of subspecialty-trained radiologists in cooperation with Asheville Radiology Associates, this department offers a full range of state-of-the-art diagnostic services and a special unit just for women.
General services include:
- Digital fluoroscopy
- Ultrasound
- Nuclear medicine imaging
- Computed tomography (CT)
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- A trauma room just 15 feet from the emergency department
The women’s imaging unit features:
- Digital mammography
- Ultrasound
- Bone density equipment

Available 24-hours a day, seven days a week, TRH’s emergency department is staffed by highly trained emergency medicine and trauma care nurses and physicians. The department also performs breath alcohol testing and legally sensitive treatment for victims of assault. For situations beyond our scope of care, the Hospital provides medical air ambulance service to regional medical centers.

We want you to be as comfortable as possible while in our care. With that in mind, TRH offers many options for managing pain—from guidance in relaxation to anesthesia services. Our anesthesia services are available 24-hours a day and include: general anesthesia, immediate availability for epidural pain blocks, pre-and post-operative pain blocks, and 24-hour epidural availability for labor and delivery.
Wound Care/Ostomy & Continence Services—828-883-5353
Our certified wound, ostomy and continence nurses provide individualized in-patient and outpatient treatment plans and education. Services include:
- Care for the treatment of chronic and acute wounds
- Diabetic foot care
- Incontinence management
- Pre-surgical and post-surgical ostomy care and education
- Training and stabilization for draining systems including biliary, nephrotomy and gastrotomy tubes
